Professional synergies, international exchange and highest course quality - the cooperation partner network of the further education centres for adhesive bonding and fibre composite technology

In July 2020, the further education in adhesive bonding technology at Fraunhofer IFAM took another step towards internationalisation: The first EAB course was held in Spain in Spanish. The realisation of this course model was only made possible by the collaboration with the Spanish cooperation partner General de Adhesivos - a company with more than 20 years of experience in adhesive bonding technology. It offers a comprehensive service that includes training, refresher courses, selection and delivery of industrial adhesives and dispensing equipment, destructive, non-destructive and ageing tests of adhesive bonds, and follow-up audits.

In July 2020, in collaboration with our cooperation partner General de Adhesivos, the first EAB course in Spain was held in Spanish.

General de Adhesivos is the latest example of the growing cooperation partner network of the advanced training centres for adhesve bonding and fiber composite technology at the Fraunhofer IFAM. The national and international cooperation partners work in close cooperation with the department of further education and technology transfer according to their quality standards. This includes the use of the latest course materials, regular methodological-didactical training and a regular exchange of expertise between the lecturers. The quality management and the documentation of further education are carried out by the Fraunhofer IFAM.

The cooperation partner model has various advantages for participants in the courses: On the one hand, it enables courses in Fraunhofer-IFAM quality to be offered at various locations in Germany and beyond. This means that not all interested parties have to make the journey to Bremen to the main location of the institute - the distances are shorter. In addition, the regional anchoring of the respective local partners benefits the participants: in addition to the knowledge gained through attending the courses, they can also network in their region. Dr. Erik Meiß is the coordinator for the adhesive bonding technology cooperation partners. He reports that in an international context there are other aspects to be added: "It's all about language skills and empathy with the mentality of the region, but also knowledge of the local market. These points can often be better managed by local partners".

However, it is of central importance for the national and international courses offered by the Fraunhofer IFAM that the quality of the content and didactics can always be experienced to the same extent everywhere. For this reason, one of Dr. Erik Meiß's main tasks is to observe the courses run by partners and their trainers until he is convinced of the quality of the course offering. By means of internal audits, which take place once a year on site, Meiß and his team check the quality of the teaching, maintain contact and exchange information with the partners on topics. At a cooperation partner meeting, which takes place once a year, there is an exchange of ideas in terms of content and didactics. Meiß emphasises the synergies from these meetings: "We update ourselves. But even more important: we learn from each other."
